Dr Adams was educated at North Sydney Boys' High school (1956-60), Sydney University (1961-5), and Brasenose College, Oxford (1967-70). He was Rouse Research Fellow in Classics at Christ's College, Cambridge from 1970-1972, Professor of Latin at the University of Manchester from 1993-1995, Professor of Latin, University of Reading, 1995-1997 and is currently Senior Research Fellow, All Souls College, Oxford. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy in 1992 and was the recipient of the Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire in 2015 for his services to Latin scholarship.
