Peter Veth trained in archaeology and anthropology at UWA taking a PhD (with Special Congratulations from Council) in 1990. He has worked as a Research Officer, Heritage Regulator, Consultant, Faculty Member and Director of Research Programs at UWA, DIA, JCU and ANU. Peter's original fieldwork was in the Pilbara region and the Western Desert along the Canning Stock Route. Further work has been carried out throughout Australia, the Torres Strait, Maluku Province, East Timor and the remote Pacific. Peter has authored 12 volumes on the archaeology, art, heritage and management of Australian Indigenous archaeology. He has also published widely on native title, maritime archaeology and assessing heritage values. Peter is now Winthrop Professor of Archaeology at UWA and Kimberley Foundation Ian Potter Chair in Rock Art.
