Diversity & equity at events

Events convened and associated with the Australian Academy of the Humanities aim to provide forums for informed, respectful and engaged debate on issues of national importance.

The Academy is dedicated to providing event experiences where all participants and attendees feel welcomed, safe and able to participate equally. The Academy strives to provide an intellectual, institutional and personal harassment-free experience at its events, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, race, age or religion.

We do not tolerate harassment by any person associated with Academy events – including program convenors, speakers, participants or event organisers. This includes inappropriate content, language and imagery in speaker presentations or event communications and related social media posts. Our program convenors, speakers and participants are requested to support a harassment-free environment.

The Academy (or its representative) retains the right to take reasonable action in response to individuals presenting, attending or interacting with an Academy event who engage in harassing behaviour. This includes, but is not limited to, requests to cease behaviour immediately, or expulsion from the event without a refund.

Individuals feeling unsafe or unwelcome are encouraged to report, either anonymously or personally, to Academy or event staff.
