Biography

Rachel A. Ankeny FASSA is Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Group at Wageningen University (The Netherlands) and an Affiliate Professor in the Departments of History and Philosophy, School of Humanities, University of Adelaide. She also is an Honorary Visiting Professor in the College of Social Science and International Studies (Philosophy) at the University of Exeter (UK). She is an elected Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia (2022) and of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2021).

Her main fields of research are philosophy and history of the biomedical and biological sciences, philosophy of medicine, bioethics, food and agricultural ethics, and science policy and public understanding of science. She is internationally recognised for her efforts associated with developing the field of ‘philosophy of science in practice,’ including as co-founder in 2005 of the Society for the Philosophy of Science in Practice, and currently is editor-in-chief of Studies in the History and Philosophy of Science. She actively participates in a number of professional groups and serves on governmental panels for OGTR and FSANZ.
