Biography

Jackie Leach Scully is Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Disability Innovation Institute at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. Following a first career in biomedical science, she has been recognised internationally for significant contributions to the bioethics of disability, feminist bioethics, and empirical bioethics more broadly. Her work has been supported by several competitive grants from national funding bodies in Switzerland and the UK, and in Australia from the Australian Research Council and National Health and Medical Research Council.

Jackie has held several Visiting Fellowships or Professorships, including at the Technisches Universität Berlin, Utrecht University, UTS Sydney, Macquarie University, and Newcastle University, UK. She is a Fellow of the UK’s Academy of Social Sciences and Royal Society of Arts London, of the Hastings Center, New York, and of the Royal Society of New South Wales. Her service includes chairing the Health Ethics Advisory Panel of NSW Ministry of Health, and membership of the NHMRC’s Australian Health Ethics Committee and Embryo Research Licensing Committee. She is currently Editor of the International Journal of Feminist Approaches to Bioethics.
