Biography

Yixu Lu is a specialist in German literature and a historian specialising in German-Chinese colonial history. Yixu’s research on German nationalism and the German colonial imagination with respect to China and her investigation into colonial cosmopolitanism in the Chinese province of Qingdao, has been pioneering, bringing unique perspectives to bear on an important and under-researched dimension of German colonial history.

She came to Australia as an ARC Postdoctoral Fellow and has taught at the Universities of Adelaide, Melbourne, UTS and Sydney. She has been a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and has held a guest professorship at the Chinese Ocean University, Qingdao. She is currently Head of the School of Languages and Cultures and Professor of History at the University of Sydney.

In 2021 Yixu Lu was elected a Corresponding Fellow of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities.
