Biography

Deborah Cheetham, Yorta Yorta performing artist and Professor of Practice at Monash University, has been a leader in Australian arts for more than 25 years. In 2014, she was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for “distinguished service to the performing arts as an opera singer, composer and artistic director, to the development of Indigenous artists, and to innovation in performance”. Acclaimed major works include stage show White Baptist ABBA Fan (1997), opera Pecan Summer (2009), orchestral and vocal work Eumeralla (2019) and viola concerto Nanyubak (2021). Throughout, she has championed development of First Nations artists and works.
