Vale Elizabeth Webby: 1942 – 2023

The Australian Academy of the Humanities acknowledges, with deep sadness, the death of Emeritus Professor Elizabeth Webby AM FAHA, one of Australia’s leading authorities on Australian Literary Studies.

Elizabeth was a long-serving Council member of the Academy, of which she was elected in 2007. She served as Vice President from 2008 – 2009 and then Editor from 2010-2016.

We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.

An obituary is being prepared by Professor Emerita Margaret Harris FAHA and will be available in due course.

In memory of our Fellows
