An Honorary Professor of Classics and Ancient History at The University of Queensland, Marguerite was elected to the Academy in 2022.
An Emeritus Professor at The Australian National University (ANU), Isabel was elected to the Academy in 1979. She is widely regarded as the “Mother of Australian Archaeology.”
Isabel was appointed as the first lecturer in prehistory and ancient history at the University of New England (UNE) in 1960, the first titled position of its kind in Australia. In 1974 she went on lecture at ANU, where she remained until her retirement in 1994.
A Fellow of the Royal Anthropological Institute (London) and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, Isabel became an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 1990 and received a Centenary Medal in 2001.
As a founding member of the Australian Archaeological Association, Isabel received the Association’s Rhys Jones Medal in 2003 and was awarded life membership in 2005.
