Biography
Vanessa Smith is Professor of English Literature at the University of Sydney. She is the author or editor of seven distinguished books focusing on the novel, object relations, and different aspects of intercultural contact in the Oceania of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, in all of which she has pioneered new areas of research and cultural theory. She was recipient of an ARC QEII Fellowship (2002-07). Professor Smith is co-editor of the Oxford University Press book series Approaches to the Novel, and convenor of the Novel Network at the University of Sydney.
