Biography

Victoria Haskins FAHA, Professor of History at the University of Newcastle, is a leading historian of the intersection of race, labour and gender relations in colonialism. Founding co-Director of the Purai Global Indigenous History Centre and President of Academic Senate (2020-2022) at Newcastle University, she has also recently served as a member of the Australian Research Council’s College of Experts. Victoria was awarded an ARC Future Fellowship in 2009, a NSW Centenary of ANZAC Commemoration History Fellowship in 2013, and a 2023 Distinguished Fellowship with CUNY Graduate Center in New York. Victoria was elected to the Academy in 2020 and is a member of the Arts and History Sections.
