Biography

Michael Kieran Harvey is one of Australia’s most distinguished pianists and acclaimed composers. The first Australian to win a major international pianoforte competition (the Ivo Pogorelich International Solo Piano Competition in 1993, then the world’s richest), he is a champion of contemporary music and Australian composers, having produced more than 50 solo CDs and premiering more than 300 mainly Australian keyboard works (many dedicated to him). As a composer, his works are noted for their innovative language, profound character, humour, and as expressions of his social commitment. He curates the Michael Kieran Harvey Collection recording series and promotes innovative Australian pianists through The Michael Kieran Harvey Scholarship.
