Biography
Guy Davidson is Associate Professor in English Literatures and Head of Postgraduate Studies in the School of Arts, English and Media at the University of Wollongong. He is a leading scholar in the field of American queer literary studies, whose work explores the interconnections of genre, sexuality, and capitalism in the postwar era. Guy is the author of Queer Commodities: Contemporary US Fiction, Consumer Capitalism, and Gay and Lesbian Subcultures (Palgrave Macmillan, 2012). He is also the co-editor, with Nicola Evans, of Literary Careers in the Modern Era (Palgrave Macmillan, 2015), and the co-editor, with Monique Rooney, of Queer Objects (Routledge, 2018). His second monograph, Categorically Famous: Literary Celebrity and Sexual Liberation in 1960s America (Stanford University Press, 2019), was the major output of an Australia Research Council Discovery Project grant on which he was sole Chief Investigator. Categorically Famous won the Australian Universities Heads of English Prize for Literary Scholarship in 2019. The Cambridge History of Gay American Autobiography, co-edited with David Bergman, is forthcoming. Guy’s current research examines the cultural and political significance of the idea of the queer underground in postwar American literature and film.
