Biography

Kate Grenville is the author of ten books of fiction, including Lilian’s Story, The Idea of Perfection, The Secret River, and Restless Dolly Maunder. Her books have been awarded many prizes, both in Australia and internationally. They have been published in the US and the UK and have been widely translated. Three of her novels have been adapted for the screen and one for the stage.

A teacher of creative writing, she has also published three books about the writing process, including The Writing Book and Writing From Start to Finish.  She has published four books of non-fiction, including Searching for the Secret River and One Life, My Mother’s Story.

She holds degrees from the University of Sydney, the University of Colorado, and the University of Technology, Sydney, as well as three Honorary Doctorates.

Kate was appointed an Officer (AO) in the General Division of The Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday 2018 Honours List for distinguished service to the literary arts as an author, to the tertiary education sector, to professional societies, and as an advocate for the publishing industry.
