Biography

My research has mainly concentrated on literary history focused on the period from 1550 to 1700. I have also published quite extensively on Australian literature during an early stage of my career, with two books co-written with Ken Gelder on contemporary Australia fiction, and a book on Elizabeth Jolley. My work on early modern literature and culture has had a particular emphasis on women’s writing, reception, editing, and the history of editing. Books on these topics include ‘Reading Early Modern Women’s Writing‘ (2006); ‘Literature and Politics in the 1620s: Whisper’d Counsells‘ (2014); ‘Editors Construct the Renaissance Canon: 1825-1915‘ (2018); and ‘Facsimiles and the History of Shakespeare Editing’ (2023). I am currently working on the history and use of early modern almanacs.
