Biography

After studying at Oxford University (First Class Honours in Italian and French, 1950; MA, 1957), John Scott taught Italian studies (literature and language) at the University of California at Berkeley (1957-61), the University of Reading (1961-77), and at the University of Western Australia (1978-97). He has been Emeritus Professor and Honorary Senior Research Fellow, the University of Western Australia, from 1998 to the present. Scott is a member of the Editorial Committee of the Electronic Bulletin of the Dante Society of America, a member of the Advisory Boards of Società Dantesca, Florence, Italy and the Lorenzo Da Ponte Italian Library, University of Toronto Press and of the following scholarly journals: L’Alighieri, Dante (Rome) and Letteratura Italiana Antica.
