Biography

Professor Pauline Allen was Director of the Centre for Early Christian Studies, Australian Catholic University until August 2019, and a Research Associate, Department of Ancient Languages, University of Pretoria. She specialises in early Christian literary genres, especially homilies, letters, hagiographies, and ecclesiastical histories; post-Chalcedonian christology; mariology and text editions.

In 2010-13 Professor Allen collaborated with Dr Bronwen Neil on an Australian Research Council Discovery Project ‘Crisis Management in Late Antiquity: The Evidence of Episcopal letters’. Her recent publications include works on Maximus Confessor, Severus of Antioch, Theodoret of Cyrrhus, Sophronius of Jerusalem, and martyr homilies.
