Biography
Harry Allen taught archaeology in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Auckland from 1973 until 2012. His teaching and research interests range from the archaeology of northern Australia and New Zealand to heritage conservation. He was a Board Member of the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and a member of the Trust’s Maori Heritage Council between 1993 and 2006. He is editor of two recent books, Australia: ‘William Blandowski’s Illustrated Encyclopaedia of Aboriginal Australia’ (Aboriginal Studies Press, 2010) and, with Caroline Phillips, ‘Bridging the Divide; Indigenous Communities and Archaeology into the 21st century’ (Left Coast Press, 2010). He was awarded an ONZM for services to New Zealand archaeology in the 2008 New Year’s honours.
