Appointed full Professor at San Diego State University, 2002. Appointed Core Professor in Modern History, Macquarie University, 2009. Appointed World Class University Fellow & Distinguished Professor, Ewha Womans University, Seoul, 2009. Appointed James Marsh Roving Professor, University of Vermont, 2008.

On the Editorial Board of the Journal of Global History and Founding President of the International Big History Association. Currently working on building a free on-line syllabus in Big History and on a second volume on the History of Inner Eurasia for the Blackwells History of the World.
