He works with colleagues from University of York, Macquarie University, ANU, University of Waikato and QUT on a range of behavioural, dating and geoarchaeological issues. Much of Simon Holdaway’s work is on Australian Aboriginal archaeology. A Record in Stone: The Study of Australia’s Flaked Stone Artefacts (with Nicola Stern) is recognised as the best introductory book on the subject.
