Biography

William Coaldrake is Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Architecture, Graduate School of Engineering, The University of Tokyo, and Principal, Coaldrake Consulting. He was Project Professor in Cultural Resource Studies, the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, the University of Tokyo and prior to this the Foundation Professor of Japanese at the University of Melbourne(1992-2007). His research interests include Japanese architectural and urban history, Japanese art history, Japanese art and architectural conservation. In 2015 he was awarded Member of the Royal Victorian Order (MVO) by Queen Elizabeth ll.
