Biography

Su san Cohn is one of Australia’s leading designer-makers, working across practices of jewellery, metalwork and installation. Her research based and collaborative practice deals with challenging themes including war, the fragility of youth, AIDS prevention, homelessness and most recently, the Danish Jewellery Law allowing the confiscation of jewellery from people seeking asylum in Denmark. Through her Workshop 3000 (Melbourne) she has mentored a generation of Australian craftspeople. She has published three monographs, held 20 solo exhibitions in Australia, Japan, United Kingdom and New Zealand, and curated major exhibitions for Design Museum London and National Gallery of Victoria. Her work is collected internationally. She has received many awards including the Australia Council 2017 Visual Artist Award. Cohn acted as Trustee of the NGV, Melbourne for 7 years (2010-17).
