Biography

Peter Conrad was born in Australia, and since 1973 has taught English literature at Christ Church, Oxford. He has published 19 books on a variety of subjects; among the best known are A Song of Love and Death: The Meaning of Opera (1987), Modern Times, Modern Places (1998), and studies of Hitchcock and Orson Welles. His most recent book is Creation: Artists, Gods and Origins (2007). He undertook undergraduate studies at the University of Tasmania (1965-68) and was a Quondam Fellow, All Souls College (1973), Prize Fellow, All Souls College (1970-73), and Rhodes Scholar, New College (1968-70).
