Kristie Miller

Biography

Kristie Miller is professor of philosophy and joint director of the interdisciplinary Centre for Time at the University of Sydney. She has previously held an ARC Senior Fellowship and an ARC Future fellowship along with several large ARC Discovery projects and a large Templeton Project. She works predominantly in metaphysics, on the nature of time, persistence, and personal identity. Her current research lies at the intersection of the metaphysics and psychology of time and temporal preferences. She is interested in how we experience time; what, if anything this tells us about time itself, and what how these experiences affect our temporal preferences (that is, our preferences regarding where in time we want events to be located). Her work is empirically informed and focused, and over the last five years she has completed a large number of empirical studies into the ways we conceive of and experience time, and on the nature of our temporal preferences. Her most recent work is focussed on whether, and how, these temporal preferences impact our wellbeing.
