Biography

Professor Jackson studied mathematics and philosophy at the University of Melbourne. He took a one year position at Adelaide University in 1967 before moving to La Trobe University in 1968 and then to a chair at Monash University in 1978. He joined the Australian National University (ANU) as Head of Philosophy in 1986. During his time at the ANU he was variously Director, Research School of Social Sciences; Distinguished Professor of Philosophy, Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies and DVC (Research). He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, and a corresponding Fellow of the British Academy. His research covers philosophical logic, philosophy of mind and language, epistemology and metaphysics, and meta-ethics.
