Biography
Patrick Kirch is Emeritus Distinguished Professor of Anthropology and Integrative Biology at the University of California (Berkeley), and currently also Professor of Anthropology at the University of Hawai’i, Manoa. A pre-eminent authority on the archaeological history of Pacific Islands’ peoples, he has researched and published on the archaeology of all parts of the Pacific, covering a broad spectrum from colonisation events to human impacts on island environments, dating protocols, prehistoric subsistence, demography and ritual. He has been elected to the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the Society of Antiquaries of London, among other honours.
