Biography
Patrick Kirch is the Class of 1954 Professor of Anthropology and Integrative Biology at the University of California (Berkeley). A pre-eminent authority on the archaeological history of Pacific Islands’ peoples, he has researched and published on the archaeology of all parts of the Pacific, covering a broad spectrum from colonisation events to human impacts on island environments, dating protocols, prehistoric subsistence, demography and ritual. He has been elected to the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the American Philosophical Society and the Society of Antiquaries of London, among other honours.
