Biography

David Marshall studied at La Trobe University and is Associate Professor in the School of Fine Arts, Classical Studies and Architecture, the University of Melbourne, where he teaches courses in sixteenth-, seventeenth- and eighteenth-century art and architectural history. He specialises in Baroque and Rococo painting and architectural history, and is the author of Viviano and Niccolo Codazzi and the Baroque Architectural Fantasy (1993). He has published articles in Apollo, Burlington Magazine, Art Bulletin, Papers of the British School at Rome, Storia dell’arte, Paragone, Artibus et Historiae, and Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. His current research porjects are The Paintings of Giovanni Paolo Panini 1691-1765; The Villa Patrizi and Villa Life in Eighteenth Century Rome. He is founder and editor of Melbourne Art Journal.
