Krishna Sen

Biography

Krishna Sen is best known for her work on Indonesian media. She has extensive experience in teaching courses and supervising post-graduate research in media studies, cultural studies and women’s studies. Her first book, Indonesian Cinema: Framing the New Order was published in 1994 and the most recent titled The Internet in Indonesia’s New Democracy in 2005 (co-authored with DT Hill). Her research interests include human rights in Asia. Sen is currently Winthrop Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Western Australia (UWA). She was Executive Director for Humanities and Creative Arts at the Australian Research Council in Canberra, just prior to taking up her position at UWA. She is a founding member of the Australian Research Council’s Asia Pacific Futures Network and Cultural Research Network. Sen served as Vice-president of the Asian Studies Association of Australia (2004-06), as a member of the ARC College of Experts (2005-06) and on the editorial boards of several national and international journals.
