Paul Thom

Biography

Professor Thom is the author of For an Audience: a philosophy of the performing arts and two other books on the philosophy of music. He has published six books and numerous articles on the history of logic, especially medieval Latin and Arabic logic most recently Robert Kilwardby’s Science of Logic. His two-volume critical edition and translation, with John Scott, of Robert Kilwardby’s commentary on the Prior Analytics appeared in the British Academy series Auctores Britannici Medii Aevi.

He served from 1998 to 2006 as Dean of Arts, first at the Australian National University, then at Southern Cross University. From 2013 to 2015 he was chercheur en rattachment principal at the Laboratoire SPHERE, University of Paris Diderot.

He has worked professionally as a musician and opera director. His current research project is a philosophical history of opera.
