Biography

Gareth Griffiths was Professor of English and Cultural Studies at the University of Western Australia until 2013. He remains an Emeritus Professor and Senior Honorary Research Fellow of that institution. He has written extensively on postcolonial literature and literary theory, and also on theater and drama. In 2017 he co-edited a book with Philip Mead on the representation of human rights. A third revised and extended edition of the co-edited book The Post-Colonial Reader was published in July 2024 and a fourth revised and extended edition of the co-authored book Postcolonial Studies: the Key Concepts is with the publishers and will be issued in 2025. In recent times he has also written widely on the role of missions in the colonizing process and on US/African relations in the nineteenth century. He now lives on the Central Coast of NSW with his wife and their poodle.
