Biography

Richard Hunter is Regius Professor of Greek Emeritus at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Trinity College. He was educated at Cranbrook School, Sydney University, and the University of Cambridge where he taught from 1977 to 2021. His area of study is Greek and Latin literature and its reception. He has edited the Journal of Hellenic Studies, is an editor of Cambridge Greek and Latin Classics and has held visiting positions at Princeton and the University of Virginia.

In January 2013 he was elected first president of the Council of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. In July 2013 he was elected a Fellow of the British Academy.
