Biography
John Kinder was born in New Zealand. After teaching at Victoria University (Wellington, NZ), James Cook University and Flinders University, he moved to Perth in 1988. He is Chair of European Languages and Studies and Deputy Head (Teaching and Learning) of the School of Humanities at the University of Western Australia, and was inaugural director of the Multimedia Centre. John is a Corresponding Fellow of the Accademia della Crusca.
His publications include Using Italian: A Guide to Contemporary Usage (Cambridge UP), CLIC: Culture and Language of Italy of CD-Rom (Interlinea) and Canon Raffaele Martelli in Western Australia 1853-1864: Life and Letters (Abbey Press). He is currently working on the history of the Italian language in Australia in the century before mass migration.
