Biography
Professor Mayer is Emeritus Professor in Church History at the University of Divinity, where from 2020 to 2022 she served as Dean of Research Strategy, helping to build capacity in a variety of fields of religion across the university. Her primary field is the history of Late Antiquity, in which she has published six monographs, nine edited volumes, and over ninety book chapters and journal articles as sole and co-author. Acknowledged internationally for her research on John Chrysostom, her recent research engages with the reception of Graeco-Roman medicine in his thought, and the role of religious rhetoric in both past and present in radicalisation.
