Margaret Miller

Biography

Margaret C. Miller, now emerita, was the Arthur and Renee George Professor of Classical Archaeology of the University of Sydney. She studied Classics at the University of British Columbia (BA) and Oxford University (BA), and Classical Archaeology at Harvard University (AM, PhD) and the American School of Classical Studies at Athens; she held a Harvard Junior Fellowship at the Center for Hellenic Studies, Washington DC. She has excavated in England, Egypt, Greece and Turkey. Before her arrival at the University of Sydney she held positions at McMaster University and the University of Toronto. Areas of research interest include relations between Greece and the Achaemenid Empire in the 6th-4th c. BC; society in Western Anatolia during the Persian period; Greek art as a source of evidence for Greek social history; and the settlement archaeology of Early Iron Age Greece. She heads the Australian committee for the UAI-based Corpus Vasorum Antiquorum.
