Biography
Malcolm Ross conducts research in Austronesian and Papuan historical linguistics, and is also particularly interested in historical-linguistic methodologies. In 2023, along with his colleagues Andrew Pawley FAHA and Meredith Osmond, he published the sixth and last volume of _The lexicon of Proto Oceanic_ (https://openresearch-repository.anu.edu.au/handle/1885/106908). This marked the completion of the thirty-year Oceanic Lexicon Project, reconstructing the the presumed language of the Lapita people who settled the many islands of the Pacific. Today (2024) he continues to work on the histories of Austronesian and Papuan (mainly Trans New Guinea) languages.
