Biography

Kim Scott has worked extensively in education, health and the arts and is currently Curtin University Distinguished Professor in the School of Media, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry.  His research agenda encompasses Indigenous Studies, Creative Writing and Performance, Literature, History, Digital Media, Linguistics, Health and Social Justice.

Kim is a member of the WA Writers Hall of Fame, and in 2022 was declared a WA State Cultural Treasure. He is convenor of the not-for-profit cultural organisation Wirlomin Noongar Language and Stories (www.wirlomin.com.au) and an award-winning novelist who is the subject of three major publications: Wheeler, B (ed) A Companion to the Works of Kim Scott (Rochester, New York: Camden House, 2016); Morrisey, P. et al (eds) Kim Scott: Readers, Language and Interpretation (Crawley, WA: UWAP 2019), and; Birch, Tony Writer on Writers: Tony Birch on Kim Scott (Black Inc, forthcoming 2024).

Kim was initially elected to the Academy as an Honorary Fellow in 2012. In 2023, he was elected as an inaugural Fellow of the Indigenous Studies Section.
