Biography

Larry Sitsky studied piano from an early age and graduated from the New South Wales Conservatorium of Music in Sydney in 1955.
After studying overseas and in Australia, he moved to Canberra in late 1965 to take up the role of head of keyboard studies at the Australian National University’s School of Music. He was later appointed as head of musicology then served as head of composition studies, head of academic studies, distinguished visiting fellow and Emeritus Professor.

Mr Sitsky has received numerous honours for his composition and research including the A H Maggs Award, the Alfred Hill Memorial Prize, the first National Critics’ Award, and the inaugural Australian Composer’s Fellowship presented by the Music Board of the Australia Council.
