Biography

Ros Pesman is a graduate of Sydney and London Universities. She holds the Challis Chair in History at the University of Sydney. Previous positions at the University of Sydney include: Head of Department of History, Acting Principal of the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and Chair of the Academic Board and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, College of Humanities and Social Sciences. She has worked in a number of research fields: Florentine Renaissance politics, Italian-Australian connections, Italian migration to Australia and women’s travel and travel writing. She has just completed a co-authored history of migration from the Veneto region of Italy to Australia and is currently working on a ARC funded project with Barbara Caine and Glenda Sluga on British women, Italy and Italian history in the nineteenth and early twentieth century.
