Valerie Attenbrow

Biography

Val Attenbrow is a Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Museum where she has worked since 1989. She undertook her archaeological studies in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Sydney completing her PhD in 1987. Before joining the Australian Museum, she worked as a consulting archaeologist and in the Cultural Heritage Division of the New South Wales (NSW) National Parks and Wildlife Service (now NSW Department of Environment and Climate Change). Her research interests are Australian Aboriginal archaeology and prehistory focusing on subsistence, land and resource use patterns and stone tool technology, particularly in south-eastern Australia during the Holocene. These interests, as well as human responses to climate change and the impact of natural disasters, are reflected in her publications. She has undertaken major fieldwork projects in Upper Mangrove Creek (west of Wyong on the NSW central coast) and the Port Jackson catchment (the area around Sydney Harbour).
