Vale Professor Trevor Burnard FAHA 1960 – 2024

The Australian Academy of the Humanities acknowledges, with deep sadness, the death of Professor Trevor Burnard FAHA.

Elected to the Academy in 2015, he was an international leading scholar in the fields of Transatlantic Slavery and Early American history.

Trevor held chairs at Brunel, Sussex, Warwick and Melbourne universities. He was Head of the School of Historical and Philosophical Studies at The University of Melbourne prior to taking up the role of Director of the Wilberforce Institute at The University of Hull.

We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues. He will be greatly missed.

An obituary is being prepared and will be available in due course.
