A Principal Research Scientist at the Australian Museum where she worked from 1989, Val was elected to the Academy in 2009.
Her research focused on the Holocene period subsistence patterns, resource use and stone tool technology of Aboriginal peoples, particularly in south-eastern Australia. These interests, as well as human responses to climate change and the impact of natural disasters, are reflected in her publications.
We extend our sincere condolences to Val’s family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.
