Vale Professor Elizabeth Jeffreys FAHA 1941 – 2023

The Australian Academy of the Humanities acknowledges, with deep sadness, the death of Professor Elizabeth Jeffreys FAHA, a leading international authority on Byzantine and Neo-Hellenic studies.

Elizabeth made a valuable contribution to establishing Byzantine studies in Australia. Together with her husband, Professor Michael Jeffreys, she established a productive research operation in the broad area of Byzantine culture.

We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends and colleagues. She will be greatly missed.

An obituary is being prepared and will be available in due course.
